    The Beautiful Imperial

Welcome to the Beautiful "Imperial Hotel" B&B.  After 5 years of faithful restoration, we are proud to open the former Imperial Hotel as a B&B.  The current Brick structre is all that remains of the once flourishing Pub.  It is now a comfortable 3 bedroom home, with 1/2 an acre of cottage gardens for your enjoyment.

    History:

The Imperial was first established "up the old Lead" in 1854 when the township of Rushworth was just emerging as its gold rush began.  In approximately 1856 the township began to move to its current site and in 1858 The Imperial moved to its current site.  Initially a weatherboard building with extensive out building The Imperial occupied the centre position of 2 town allotment numbers 36 and 38 High Street.  On either side of "the pub" a store was erected at times housing butchers, grocers and even a shoe maker.

However on midwinter’s night (June 21) 1880 disaster struck and the original weatherboard building was destroyed by fire, though all the outbuilding were saved by the efforts of the local people who came buckets in hand to assist quelling the flames.  Later that year 40,000 hand made bricks were ordered to rebuild "the pub" on the same site.  This is the building which exists today.

    Today:

    Bed Warmer

The bed warmer used to be filled with red hot coals and then moved back and forth under the sheets to warm the bed prior to it’s occupants arrival, if one wasn’t too careful you could scorch the linen or even catch the bed on fire.  Thank goodness this one is only for display at
